Food Shopping and Pantry

Use this form to manage your consumables.  It displays your shopping list, lets you enter and record shopping events.  It also displays your pantry and lets you enter new consumables.

The form opens with a list of all outstanding shopping items, in category sequence.  The list shows the food category, the item name and the quantity of the item to be purchased. When you click on a row in the list, that record will be retrieved and displayed in the Shopping Item tab. Below is an example of a typical shopping list created by entering shopping items on the next tab.  Note that the list keeps track of the total estimated cost of the items on the list.  When you click on an item, BoatExec will immediately show the item detail on the next tab.

Shopping Item

You can record each item you need to shop for using this form.  You can imbed both web site links in this and any other text area.  Note also that by pushing the button, you can record the purchase of this item and enter the pantry location.

If you have acquired the item and want to add it to your pantry list, you can press the  button to copy the item to your Inventory. You will be taken to the Inventory Detail tab to finish describing the item.  Note that the quantity purchased will only be added to an existing inventory record if the shopping record was created from an inventory item, and the units of measure match.  Otherwise, a new inventory record will be created.

Pantry List

This is a list of the food items you have on board.  When you click on a row in the list, that record will be retrieved and displayed in the Pantry Item tab.

Inventory Detail

There are two strategies you can use to keep track of your pantry.  One strategy is to keep updating an existing inventory record as you consume and acquire items.  However, that strategy looses track of the age of the food items.  The second strategy is to record a new inventory record for each food item you buy.  That way, you can see when each food item was purchased.

When you are running low on an item, you can press the button to copy the item to your shopping list.
